An unaddressed underbite, overbite or overcrowding issue with your teeth can do more than leave you with an unattractive smile. Over time the unhealthy relationship between multiple teeth in your dentition can lead to increased risk of dental fractures and other chronic problems like dental attrition.
Fortunately, our dentist can often correct misaligned teeth by installing traditional braces. The simple hardware components create a system capable of applying gradual tension to the periodontal connective tissues that influence the orientation and position of your teeth.
After the brackets, wires and other components have been secured in your mouth, you will need to return to see Dr. David S. Wilbanks for routine adjustment appointments. Each of these sessions will tighten the traditional braces to gradually alter the alignment of your teeth.
If you aren’t comfortable with the over appearance of traditional braces hardware, our dentist might be able to apply a porcelain glaze to the components which can be shaded to match your natural tooth enamel to lessen their visual impact.
Once your teeth have achieved their ideal alignment, our dentist can remove your braces. At this point, he will provide you with a retainer to help hold your teeth in place while any latent tension in your periodontal sockets slowly fades.
